Background of Accelerate Prosperity (AP)

AP inspires and facilitates rising entrepreneurs in emerging regions to grow new markets, create sustainable employment, and strengthen communities. AP is a global initiative of the AKDN in Central and South Asia, which follows guidance from the Aga Khan Foundation to develop more formal structures to catalyze enterprises in emerging marketing and areas where economic opportunities remain insufficient. Through patient capital and tailored business advisory to start-ups and small and growing businesses, AP complements broader employment-related programs of AKF and draws significantly on technical expertise from the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development’s (AKFED) Industrial Promotion Services (IPS), and coordinates efforts with the AKDN’s financial institutions, the University of Central Asia and many other national partners.

Purpose of Services Required

AP supports the development of innovative business ideas as part of its ideation/idea-creation programs. It aims to enable entrepreneurs to  develop effective business  ideas, practical and sound business models and value propositions, and design persuasive and impactful pitch decks.

The purpose of this service provision is to conduct expert in-person training sessions on 3 key modules.
1) Design Thinking for Business Ideation
2) Business Modeling and Value Propositioning
3) Pitch Making

Module 1: Design Thinking for Business Ideation

It is expected that the cohort entrepreneurs will be able to do the following things after attending this training:

  •  Entrepreneurs will possess the skills and mindset required to approach business ideation through the lens of design thinking, fostering innovation and customer-centric solutions for setting up successful businesses in the future.

Key Learning

OutcomesIn this module participants will be able to apply design thinking principles to the process of generating innovative business ideas. The learning outcomes include:

  • Empathize with user: Develop the ability to deeply empathize with potential customers, gaining insights into their needs, desires, and pain points.
  • Define the problem: Articulate and define the specific problems or challenges those potential customers face, ensuring a clear understanding of the issues to be addressed.
  • Ideate Creatively: Cultivate creative brainstorming techniques to generate a wide range of potential solutions and business ideas.
  •  Prototype and Test: Learn the process of creating prototypes or Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) to test and refine their business concepts based on real-world feedback.
  • Iterate and Implement: Embrace the iterative nature of design thinking, using feedback to refine and enhance business ideas and eventually move towards implementation.

Module 2: Business Model and Value Propositioning

It is expected that the participants will be able to do the following things after attending this
training:

  • Entrepreneurs will be equipped to create and refine business models and/or ideas that are wellaligned with their value propositions, setting the stage for sustainable and successful startups.

Key Learning Outcomes

The aim of this module is to expose entrepreneurs with the knowledge and skills to craft business models and compelling value propositions.

The learning outcomes include:

  •  Business Model Clarity: Gain clarity on different business model types and the ability to select the most suitable model for their startup.
  •  Customer-Centric Value Proposition: Understand the importance of a customer-centric approach in developing a unique value proposition that addresses customer needs and differentiates the business.
  • Revenue Streams: Learn to identify and strategize various revenue streams that can sustain the business over the long term.
  • Cost Structure Management: Develop skills in managing costs efficiently and optimizing resource allocation to ensure profitability.
  • Market Fit Assessment:  Understand how to evaluate the fit between the value proposition and the target market, adjusting as needed for optimal alignment.

Module 3: Pitch Making

It is expected that participants will be able to do the following things after attending this training:

  • Entrepreneurs can develop a basic pitch deck of their business idea.

Key Learning Outcomes

The aim of this module is to expose aspiring entrepreneurs to the art of pitch making with the following learning outcomes.

  • Understand the core purpose of pitch-making.
  •  Understand the audience and their priorities, and technique to develop creative and persuasive pitch decks.

Methodology

  • Mini lecture (20%), Exercise/ Practice (40%), Group Mentoring (30%).
    The trainer will design and develop content for the required modules and adopt an activity-driven and case-study based approach to engage participants actively in the learning process.
    The trainer acts as facilitator, using interactive learning methods to help participants to share their experiences through group discussions, case studies, and simple exercises. The trainer is expected to deliver the training in a way that all participants can apply the knowledge gained during the training.

Nature of Service Provision

  • Conducting in-person trainings
  • Design content for the bootcamp including handouts/workbooks.
  •  Printing bootcamp materials (e.g., handouts/workbooks) and the stationary items for the participating entrepreneurs.

Scope of Engagement

  • Training to be delivered on 3 key modules over a 2-day period. (6-8 hours per day)

Key Capacities Required

The required capacities include:

  • Trainers with relevant background in the above-mentioned core modules; Business Modelling, Design Thinking, and Pitch Making.

Profile of the Trainer(s)

  • 3-7 years of training and advisory experience in entrepreneurship and start-ups space in the given subject matter.

Results Based Payment

  • 50% of the total value of services will be given upon the submission of final content and material for the training.
  • 50% of the total value of services will be given upon the closing report after delivery of training covering the 3 key modules as mentioned above. Alongside the closing report, a complete list of bootcamp attendees/participants needs to be provided for both days. The service provider will also need to ensure that perception surveys are completed by each participant after the conclusion of Synergy Bootcamp.

Eligibility Requirement

  • Both consulting firms and individual trainers are eligible to apply.
  • Consulting firms must be SECP registered.
  • Consulting firms having relevant expertise trainers on board are encouraged to apply.
  • The trainers of the consulting firm/individual trainers must have 3-7 years of training and advisory experience in the entrepreneurship space and relevant knowledge of the given subject matter.

Evaluation Criteria

  •  Relevant Experience: 20 marks (Attach profiles of trainers.
  •  Profile Completeness: 30 marks (Detailed company/consultant profile).
  • Financial Bid: 50 marks
