Risk Manager
BACKGROUND
Accelerate Prosperity is a global initiative of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in Central and South Asia which offers creative financial solutions as well as pre and post investment technical assistance to help grow early-stage businesses, startups, and innovative ideas. Since 2016, Accelerate Prosperity has supported promising entrepreneurs through business modeling, 1:1 coaching from staff, mentorship and networking with entrepreneurs, investment readiness, seed and growth financing, investors services and trade facilitation.
SCOPE OF SERVICES
Purpose: Reporting to the Country Director, the incumbent will be responsible for assessing, identifying and mitigating any potential financial, investment and operational risks that may hinder the reputation, safety, security and financial prosperity of Accelerate Prosperity.
Reports to: Country Director.
Preferred Location: Karachi, Pakistan.
The Risk Manager will be responsible to:
- Promote, set up and implement an Investment Risk Management Risk Management System, making it appropriate to the needs of AP investments throughout the investment lifecycle.
- Lead the Investment Risk Management Risk Management function providing effective direction and motivation of the department staff.
- Undertake day-to-day Investment risk management activities including identification, prioritization, register management action planning and portfolio monitoring.
- Investigate investment business cases to minimize risk through recommending action plans and monitor progress against action plans.
- Establish, maintain and monitor relevant compliance and governance polices, controls and procedures, and advise on related risks.
- Undertake real time risk assessment of new investment proposals up to settlement and completion to ensure compliance with all relevant policies, regulation and laws.
- Undertake post investment risk monitoring of existing investments, to monitor and manage the overall portfolio risk.
- Conduct real time and post review investment documents to ensure completeness or identify non-compliance.
- Continuously review and improve the risk compliance and governance policies and framework, provide updates, training and education to the investment team on risk and compliances.
- Apply broad spectrum investment, financial and operational risk management practices including the development of best in class operational due diligence practices.
- Conduct background checks of all AP investments, due diligence on all its principals, directors and shareholders.
- Act as an ambassador for risk management, coaching others in the requirements, processes and benefits of risk management.
- Perform regular investment record audits to ensure compliance with the law and internal policies.
- Support internal and internal audits with documentary requirements.
- Ensure all Investment procedures is in compliance to the legislation and AP’s Investment Policy.
- Organize files of all cases and review compliance.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Country Director.
In addition to this, the Risk Manager will be the designated E&S specialist within AP Pakistan. They will be responsible for:
- Ensuring development, application and maintenance of ESMS framework.
- Ensuring proper implementation of ESMS framework by other teams and identification of any instances of non-compliance.
- Champion ESMS and promote it throughout the organization.
- Regular review of ESMS framework and recommend updates/changes.
Time Duration
The duration of Services Contract will be for 12 months and will be subject to renewal with mutual consent of both parties (rolling), after elapse of the defined duration.
QUALIFICATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
The ideal candidate shall have following qualification criteria, experience:
- At least a bachelor’s degree in management, finance, risk and/or accounting.
- At least 3 years’ experience working in risk or investments function with a financial institution or investment firm.
- Having experience of maintaining or navigating risk management systems.
